When TradingView is the right tool

TradingView is a very capable charting and research platform, and for many traders it is the right place to spend most of the day. It is a good fit when you want:

  • Charts across a large market universe. TradingView says it gives direct access to more than 3.5 million instruments from hundreds of data feeds.
  • A large script library. Its pricing page lists 400+ built-in indicators and 100K+ community-powered indicators.
  • Community and social ideas. Traders publish charts, ideas and scripts, and you can follow and discuss them.
  • Manual trading from the chart with supported brokers, plus alerts on price, indicators and strategies.
  • A free way to start. The Basic plan costs nothing and includes Pine Script and the Strategy Tester with basic report metrics.

If your process is discretionary (you read the chart and place the trade), TradingView may already cover what you need. Roboquant is not built to replace a full charting workstation.

Where Roboquant is different

Roboquant is an end-to-end AI quant platform. It focuses on one job: turning a trading idea into a systematic strategy, testing it on real data with realistic costs, and running that same strategy live. It runs in the browser with no local setup.

The table compares objective features as published on each company's own pages on 30 September 2026. Plan names are as they appear on each pricing page.

FeatureTradingViewRoboquant
How strategies are builtWritten in Pine Script, TradingView's scripting language (available on every plan, including Basic), or taken from the script library.Described in plain English in chat. The AI writes a Roboquant strategy, compiles it and fixes compile errors. You can read and edit the code, but you do not have to.
Backtest data and fillsStrategy Tester fills historical orders from chart bars and assumes a price path inside each bar (open, high, low, close in one of two orders). Bar Magnifier uses lower-timeframe bars for more intrabar detail on Premium and Ultimate. Deep Backtesting runs a strategy over all available history for a chosen date range on Premium and Ultimate.OHLCV fills on every plan. Tick-level fills on the historical trade tape from Starter. L2 order book fills (recent window) from Elite. Commission and slippage are inputs on every run, and Replay shows the strategy trading bar by bar.
Market data costPaid plans include market data that has no extra per-user exchange fee. Some markets are bought separately.Historical CME market data is included in every plan. Nothing extra to buy or connect.
Optimization and validationStrategy report with basic metrics on all plans and advanced metrics on paid plans.Grid optimization on every plan. In-sample/out-of-sample (IS/OOS) validation from Pro. Walk-forward, Bayesian, genetic and Pareto search from Elite. Monte Carlo trade distributions from Starter.
Live executionManual trading from the chart with supported brokers. Webhook alert notifications on Essential and higher, which third-party tools can act on.Native deployment of the same compiled strategy to your connected broker account from Pro, with live monitoring and per-deployment risk limits (maximum order size, maximum position size, order-rate limit, daily-loss limit).

One strategy from test to trade

In Roboquant, the strategy compiles once. That same compiled strategy runs in the backtest, in the optimizer and in live trading, so there is no rewrite between the version you tested and the version that trades. See how backtesting works in Roboquant.

Tick data vs bar data

A bar records open, high, low and close, but not the order in which those prices traded. When a stop and a target both sit inside one bar, a bar-only backtest has to assume which was hit first. Tick-level fills replay the trade tape print by print, so that question is answered by the data. Tick fills start on Starter.

Moving a Pine Script strategy over

Roboquant does not run, import or convert Pine Script. Instead, the AI rebuilds your strategy's logic as a Roboquant strategy.

  1. 1. Describe it or paste the rules.

Write the entry, exit, stop and sizing rules in plain English, or paste the rules of your Pine strategy into the chat.

  2. 2. Let the AI rebuild it.

The AI writes a Roboquant strategy, compiles it and fixes compile errors before you run anything.

  3. 3. Check the trades.

Because the logic is rebuilt rather than converted line by line, run a backtest over a period you know and compare entries and exits with what you expect. Use Replay to watch each trade on the chart.

  4. 4. Test it harder.

Switch to tick-level fills, add your real commission and slippage, and check the parameters out of sample before you go live.

Results can differ from the TradingView Strategy Tester even when the rules match, because the data source, fill model and cost settings differ.

FAQ

What is a good TradingView alternative for backtesting?

It depends on what you want to change. If you want to keep writing Pine Script, TradingView's own Strategy Tester is the natural place. If you want to build strategies without coding, test them with tick-level fills and realistic costs on market data included in your plan, and run the same strategy live, Roboquant is built for that workflow.

Is there a free TradingView alternative for backtesting?

Yes. Roboquant's Free plan costs $0 and needs no card. It includes 5 standard backtests per day on one year of historical OHLCV data, one small optimization per day, the guided AI strategy builder and all Roboquant strategy templates. Tick-level fills and longer history start on Starter. TradingView's Basic plan is also free and includes the Strategy Tester with basic report metrics.

Can I use Roboquant together with TradingView?

Yes. Keep TradingView for charting, research and ideas, and use Roboquant to build, backtest, optimize and run systematic strategies. If you already trade from TradingView alerts, Roboquant Connect (included from Starter) can take those alerts by webhook and place the orders on your Tradovate accounts, with risk controls in between.

Do I need to know Pine Script or any programming language?

No. Describe the rules in chat and the AI writes and compiles the strategy. You can read and edit the generated code if you want to.

Can Roboquant convert my Pine Script automatically?

No. Roboquant does not run or convert Pine Script. You can paste the rules of a Pine strategy into the chat and the AI rebuilds the logic as a Roboquant strategy. Check the trades afterwards, because the logic is rebuilt, not translated line by line.

What market data does Roboquant use?

Licensed CME market data, included in your plan: historical bars on every plan, trade-by-trade tick data from Starter, and recent order book (MBP-10) depth from Elite. Your broker is never used as a data source.

Test your next idea on real data

Describe it in chat, backtest it with real costs, and see how it holds up before it trades.
